Iowa ARES Iowa-ARES@groups.io

This is the official place for ARES members in Iowa to exchange ideas and information. You do not need to be an ARRL member to join ARES, but it is encouraged.

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service® (ARES) consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment in advance, with their local ARES leadership, for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes.  Members continually hone their skills through training and exercises and maintain their own radio equipment, digital communications equipment, backup power systems, and associated supplies to be ready at a moment’s notice, all at their own expense.

In addition to providing emergency assistance when activated through the agencies we serve, Iowa Section ARES is also available to provide communications support for non-commercial community events such as bike-a-thons, races, parades, and similar activities.  Many of our members also have experience supporting large-scale events throughout Iowa.

ARES members will conduct themselves with respect and courtesy to other members and those whom we serve. We will be listeners and communicators.

ARES members will not use profanity, vulgar language or language or expressions which may be considered derogatory when in public or in this space.
