Nanolight Trike aircraft are defined as:
A self-launching, single occupant air vehicle of the “trike” configuration consisting of a motorized power unit fitted on wheels (“carriage”or "chariot") attached to a wing (manufactured flex or rigid wing Hang Glider) at a single point and controlled in flight by shifting the pilot/carriage weight or balance relative to the aerodynamic balance of the wing through a single control device. The use of ‘aerodynamic control’ surfaces is allowable provided that they are rigged to, and activated solely by the movement of the pilot/chariot relative to the wing and single control device.

The total empty weight of the aircraft must be less than 90 kg. (198lbs.) Inclusive of a safety back-up system but exclusive of fuel or instruments. The primary purpose of the aircraft is to launch the aircraft into UNPOWERED soaring flight as a fixed-wing glider using only natural air currents and physical laws to remain aloft.

IT MUST BE FULLY UNDERSTOOD THAT ANY PERSON WHO ADDS ANY KIND OF POWER SYSTEM TO ANY HANG GLIDER HAS, BY THAT DECISION, BECOME AN EXPERIMENTAL TEST PILOT OF AN UNTESTED AND UNPROVEN AIRCRAFT WHICH MAY NOT MEET ANY STANDARD OF AIRWORTHINESS AND MUST PROCEED WITH EXTREME CAUTION. THIS ACTIVITY IS NOT ENDORSED BY ANY HANG GLIDER MANUFACTURER NOR BY ANY PARTICIPANT IN THIS DISCUSSION GROUP, PER SE. PRACTICE A THOROUGH DUE DILIGENCE BEFORE PROCEEDING IN THIS ACTIVITY.
