Research/discussion group for people researching the descendants of Jonathan HAINES (1744-1834) & Sarah SHARP (1764-183?) of Champaign Co OH. We are also researching other HAINES families who settled in Champaign Co or Logan Co OH or Henry Co IA, who were also descendants of Richard HAINES (1640-1682) [See last paragraph].

Jonathan HAINES' parentage is somewhat uncertain but the current theory is he descended from Joseph HAINES (William, Richard) & Patience PRICKETT. Sarah SHARP's parents were Allen SHARP & Elizabeth HAINES (Carlisle, Richard, Richard).

Jonathan & Sarah's children: Joseph Jacob HAINES (m. Rachel BALLINGER), Allen HAINES (m. Sarah BALLINGER), Job HAINES (m. Mary BLACK), Jonathan HAINES (m. Lucretia SOUTHARD), and Elizabeth HAINES (m. Daniel BLACK). [We are also following Samuel HAINES (m. Barbara BLACK), who is somehow related to Jonathan HAINES. Possibly another son?]

A Quaker, Richard HAINES lived in Aynhoe-on-the-Hill, Northamptonshire, England. In 1682, he and his wife, Margaret, along with their children: Richard, Thomas, William, and Mary sailed for America on the ship "Amity." Some sources say, their oldest son, John, had preceded them several years earlier. Richard HAINES died towards the end of the voyage, leaving his wife with a newborn son, Joseph. Margaret HAINES and her children settled in Burlington Co NJ and today numerous people can trace their ancestry back to this original HAINES family.
